the funniest meltdown ive ever had was in college when i got so overstimulated that i could Not speak, including over text. one of my friends was trying to talk me through it but i was solely using emojis because they were easier than trying to come up with words so he started using primarily emojis as well just to make things feel balanced. this was not the Most effective strategy... until. he tried to ask me "you okay?" but the way he chose to do that was by sending "šš¼šš¼ā" and i was so shocked by suddenly being asked if i was dtf that i was like WHAT???? WHAT DID YOU JUST SAY TO ME?????????? and thus was verbal again
#yeehaw#1k#5k#10k#posts that got cursed. blasted. im making these tag updates after... 19 hours?#also i have been told it should say speech loss bc nonverbal specifically refers to the permanent state. did not know that!#unfortunately i fear it is so far past containment that even if i edited it now it would do very little. but noted for future reference#edit 2: nvm enough ppl have come to rb it from me directly that i changed the wording a bit. hopefully this makes sense#also. in case anyone is curious. though i doubt anyone who is commenting these things will check the original tags#1) my friend did not do this on purpose in any way. it was not intended to distract me or to hit on me. im a lesbian hes a gay man. cmon now#he felt very bad about it afterwards. i thought it was hilarious but it was very embarrassed and apologetic#2) āwhy didn't he use š«µš¼?ā didn't exist yet. āwhy didn't he use š?ā dunno! we'd been using a lot of hand emojis. šš¼ is an ok sign#like it makes sense. it was just a silly mixup. also No i did not invent šš¼šš¼ as a gesture meaning sex. do you live under a rock#3) nonspeaking episodes are a recurring thing in my life and have been since i was born. this is not a quirky one-time thing#it is a pervasive issue that is very frustrating to both myself and the people i am trying to communicate with. in which trying to speak is#extremely distressing and causes very genuine anguish. this post is not me making light of it it's just a funny thing that happened once#it's no different than if i post about a funny thing that happened in conjunction w a physical disability. it's just me talking abt my life#i don't mind character tags tho. those can be entertaining. i don't know what any of you are talking about#Except the ppl who have said this is pego/ryu or wang/xian. those people i understand and respect#if you use it as a writing prompt that's fine but send it to me. i want to see it#aaaand i think that's it. everyday im tempted to turn off rbs on it. it hasn't even been a week

Studying linguistics is actually so wonderful because when you explain youth slang to older professors, instead of complaining about how "your generation can't speak right/ you're butchering the language" they light up and go āreally? Thatās so wonderful! What an innovative construction! Isn't language wonderful?"
#linguistics#gen z slang#english#as people in the reblog pointed out!#most gen z slang comes from (or was appropriated from) aave#honestly I was just excited to talk about how people in my field actually get excited about non standard uses of English#instead of ridiculing speakers#and I tagged incorrectly and didnāt point out the very real issues of language and power and appropriation inherent in modern slang#in that much of it was appropriated#and even that which experiences language change in the wider culture still originated in aave#aave is just as linguistically valid as any other English dialect because it is a proper language#and the grammar is incredible!!!#habitual be is fantastic and an excellent example of how a richer case system or a certain case can render an adverb unnecessary#and the phonology is just beautiful#anyway Iām very sorry#I fucked up

"internet historian's alt-right anyways" "great day to have never liked james somerton" "never even heard of illuminaughtii before this lol"
that's great buddy but don't go around thinking you're immune to this. if you're not looking for plagiarism, you likely won't notice it unless its egregiously obvious. hell, you've probably consumed plagiarized content without even realizing it. even hbomb pointed out that these people disguised what they presented pretty well as long as you didn't try and dig deeper. don't come away just thinking of this as a callout piece, take this as an important lesson about vetting your sources. if googling scripts in quotes was enough to expose the original, we should all start doing that shit!!
edit: it got a little too doomer-y a little too fast so one quick addition
this is hbomb's curated playlist of queer creators, many of whom were victims of plagiarism
this is producer kat on reddit calling for any more plagiarism discoveries and for queer content creators to be uplifted
please take some time to uplift these creators and recommend any you know! if you can help uncover more of the original creators whose work was lifted that would be great too :)
UPDATE- From Hbomb's twitter: "We're in the process of cataloguing everyone James Somerton plagiarised and finding their contact information. Which is quite a task, so to help us out: If you see this and happen to be one of the people Somerton stole from, please email us at [email protected]"
edit 2:
#hbomberguy#james somerton#illuminaughtii#internet historian#vice#ign etc have had issues with plaigarism before#this isnt just some youtuber scandal remember#even books can fall victim to this#kaz rowe's history vids exemplify this pretty well#i'd recommend the triboulet ass slapping myth one if you want a good breakdown#and somerton absolutely had problems with the way he discussed foreign media and anyone that wasnt a cis gay man#but considering most of his ideas werent his own that doesnt dismiss the original authors' work keep in mind

I hope riot drops arcane 2, the longer, not cut version of arcane. All deleted scenes, the originals of shortened scenes, extra episodes if need be. It's such an incredible world and it sucks they had to cut things down, especially since this may be the last we ever see of these characters.
#thoughts#arcane#caitvi#jayvik#timebomb#like i get publishing the originals would've been expensive#every second costs money#but people would pay?#Its a shame something so incredible would have to suffer from pacing issues just because they have time quotas#like i do not care#2 hour long arcane episodes sound like heaven#sorry

Autistic sensory issues aren't just "this bothers and annoys me", it's very often much closer to "my brain is responding to this sensory input as if it's causing me physical pain." And that's why we often genuinely can't just ignore it and get used to it.

it appears 2024 will continue the trend of art companies proudly representing themselves with the use of art theft generators [aka, AI generators]
original tweet is now deleted, but wacom used a generated image of a dragon for their 2024 lunar new year promo on twitter.
if you're shopping for art tablets, huion, artisul, and XPPen tablets do just as good a job as their wacom equivalents for less, sometimes even half the price.
when you buy a wacom you're paying almost exclusively for the Brand Name, not any actual quality.
#i ave both artisul and huion tablets and they treat me nice with no issues#many people have told me good things about xppen though i haven't personally used one#wacom#art tablets#art tools#2024#i'm a petty wacom hater#ever since they did me dirty by not maintaining my original tablet's drivers anymore

People who write Jason calling Sheila a bitch in his internal monologue donāt understand him Iām sorryyy. I donāt think heās ever actually said a word against her in canon at the is point. He spent his last moments trying to protect her from the blast even after her betrayal. He is insane in ways you canāt even begin to fathom
#These mommy issues got layers to em baby#āBut how does he forgive Sheila but stay mad at Bruceā because Bruce is Batman. Jason never had expectations for Sheila#Jason spending his last moments trying to protect Sheila is so important to me I will always be the 1st to remind people what aditf#originally says his last moments were like. He wasnāt alone. His mom was there :)#<- isnāt that even more sick and twisted#They died TOGETHER they were buried TOGETHER. Mamaās boy to the end#Jason Todd#Sheila Haywood#dc

In Defense of Shitty Queer Art
Queer art has a long history of being censored and sidelined. In 1895, Oscar Wildeās novel The Picture of Dorian Gray was used as evidence in the authorās sodomy trials. From the 1930s to the 1960s, the American Hays Code prohibited depictions of queerness in film, defining it as āsex perversion.ā In 2020, the book Steven Universe: End of an Era by Chris McDonnell confirmed that Rebecca Sugarās insistence on including a sapphic wedding in the show is what triggered its cancellation by Cartoon Network. According to the American Library Association, of the top ten most challenged books in 2023, seven were targeted for their queer content. Across time, place, and medium, queer art has been ruthlessly targeted by censors and protesters, and at times it seems there might be no end in sight.
So why, then, are queer spaces so viciously critical of queer art?
Name any piece of moderately-well-known queer media, and you can find immense, vitriolic discourse surrounding it. Audiences debate whether queer media is good representation, bad representation, or whether itās otherwise too problematic to engage with. Artists are picked apart under a microscope to make sure their morals are pure enough and their identities queer enough. Every minor faultāreal or perceivedāis compiled in discourse dossiers and spread around online. Lines are drawn, and callout posts are made against those who get too close to āproblematic art.ā
Modern examples abound, such as the TV show Steven Universe, the video game Dream Daddy, or the webcomic Boyfriends, but itās far from a new phenomenon. In his book Hi Honey, Iām Homo!, queer pop culture analyst Matt Baume writes about an example from the 1970s, where the ABC sitcom titled Soap was protested by homophobes and queer audiences alikeābefore a single episode of the show ever aired. Audiences didnāt wait to actually watch the show before passing judgment and writing protest letters.
After so many years starved for positive representation, itās understandable for queer audiences to crave depictions where weāre treated well. Itās exhausting to only ever see the same tired gay tropes and subtext, and queer audiences deserve more. Yet the way to more, better, varied representation is not to insist on perfection. The pursuit of perfection is poison in art, and itās no different when that art happens to be queer.
When the pool of queer art is so limited, it feels horrible when a piece of queer art doesnāt live up to expectations. Even if the representation is technically good, itās disappointing to get excited for a queer story only for that story to underwhelm and frustrate you.
But the world needs that disappointing art. It needs mediocre art. It even needs the bad art. The world needs to reach a point where queer artists can fearlessly make a mess, because if queer artists can only strive for perfection, the less art they can make. They may eventually produce a masterpiece, but a single masterpiece is still a drop in the bucket compared to the oceans of censorship. The only way to drown out bigotry and offensive stereotypes created by bigots is to allow queer artists the ability to experiment, learn through making mistakes, and represent their queer truth even if it clashes with someone elseās.
If queer artists arenāt allowed to make garbage, we can never make those masterpieces everyone craves. If queer artists are terrified at all times that their art will be targeted both by bigots and their own queer communities, queer art cannot thrive.
Let queer artists make shitty art. Let allies to queer people try their hand at representation, even if they miss the mark. Let queer art be messy, and let the artists screw up without fear of overblown retribution.
Itās the only way weāll ever get more queer art.

Actually sometimes when you're disabled, forcing the "healthy" standard solution isn't actually going to improve your quality of life! Like if you have severe sensory processing issues, then forcing yourself to eat food that makes you vomit is unlikely to improve your quality of life. And if you're touch averse to the point of pain, cuddling is very unlikely to improve your mood. And if being social always exhausts you completely, then forcing yourself to go out every weekend is unlikely to actually make your life any happier. So can we please stop acting like universal solutions are a real thing?!

You're so right, queen. Women had complete bodily autonomy forever and anybody who says maybe corsets were bad is lying. Our society has a heedless misconception that dismantling femininity is cool when actually femininity is so special and important and valid, and we absolutely must encourage women to essentialize their oppression by inscribing it on their bodies. Go off.
#the comment on the original issue was one thing#basically remarking how the sentence didn't make sense for a character of that class and time#but then of course. we veered away
